How is ROCK-ED similar to or different from traditional music lessons?

Our program is based around the end goal of performing on stage with a group. While each student receives individual help during the instruction sessions, the focus is on playing or singing to perform. Each student will receive the individual instruction needed to properly and confidently perform their chosen song, which includes guidance to help them practice at home. While traditional music lessons usually focus on reading music and more classical technique, Rock-Ed takes a practical approach based on our instructors' years of experience to give your student the ability to play a song they're excited about and be a part of a group that motivates them to get ready for the show.

Can you tell me about the instructor's background and experience?

Ace Enders is the lead band coach at ROCK-ED. His band, The Early November, has been touring and releasing music for over twenty years. He's also a producer and songwriter, working with bands from all over the world in his Ocean City, NJ recording studio. Ace taught himself to play guitar along with the other instruments we offer here at ROCK-ED. He has an understanding of the music business that gives him a unique perspective on how to approach guiding people of all ages in their music journey.

How do you match students with a band?

Each student's ability level and personal style is taken into consideration when matching them with other musicians. We also consider how each student's schedule matches up with the rest of the group.

Is the instruction one on one or with a group?

Each student will spend their sessions with a group of 3-6 students. Within each 90 minute session, there is time for individual help. The majority of the session will be spent working as a group. If your student needs more individual help, we are happy to add that on and/or recommend some great resources to make home practice easy.

What if my student is brand new at singing or playing?

Absolute beginners are welcome! We will provide you with the resources you need to prepare at home before the sessions begin.

What if my student or band already knows how to play together?

That's great! Your band coach will work with you at your level and will be thrilled to dive in and explore what kind of help will get you to the next level by getting to know you and considering your goals.

How do you handle payment?

We accept cash, check, or credit card. 50% of the program fee is due upon registration. The balance is due on the date of your first session.

How does the live show at a venue work?

We are happy to be partnering with Anchor Rock Club in Atlantic City for our live show at the end of the program! The tentative date is Sunday, August 27th. Tickets will be available for friends and family.

ROCK-ED will provide the equipment needed for the show. Bass and guitar players will need to bring their instruments, drummers can bring their seats and sticks.

How is scheduling handled?

We aim to have each group meet once or twice per week. You will provide us with your availability when you sign up and we'll form a schedule that works for everyone.

Does my student need prior lessons or experience?

Not necessarily! As soon as you decide to sign up, we can help you with resources that will prepare your student with the basics they need to be ready for the first session. True beginners are welcome. Every student should be dedicated to practicing at home.

What if we miss a lesson?

If your whole group needs to reschedule a session, we will do our best to make that happen. We will also have a few slots held each week for make-up sessions. We understand that things get busy and you might have a vacation planned. We will do what we need to do so your student stays on track!

What do I bring to the sessions? Do I need a lot of equipment?

Guitar and bass players should bring their instruments and drummers should bring their seats and sticks. The Rock-Ed space is fitted with a selection of amps, drums, keyboards, and microphones.

I see this is a summer session. Will you continue to offer this program in the future?

Yes! As of right now, the next program session will run from January 2024 - April 2024 due to our band coach's fall touring schedule. We hope to offer check-in sessions throughout the fall when time allows so we can make sure your band is still rocking!
